I have worked in a government department for over 30 years and many of my peers have either semi-retired already, or are looking at retiring in the next couple of years.
I don't have that luxury. I only ever worked part time and my husband is disabled and doesn't work, so I am the only earner. I will have to work until I drop (my pension is crap).
Today, yet again, I was asked the question I dread: 'how long have you got until you retire?'
I don't really want to give people my life story, but I don't want to lie either. What can I say?
