1996 Ford F-150

Good battery and using a booster on top of it.
One morning truck won't start I hear click no turnover I assume starter.
Order a new starter from RockAuto.
Fast forward a week later install the starter here hum but no crank or click as soon as I start it. Assume it's bad, take it out, and test it on a battery. It works just fine. reinstall it still hear the same sound is it the starter or something else?
