Got scammed

Accidentally send a payment exceeding $3,000 USD via f&f to a scammer posing as a watch seller on a subreddit here. I’m fully aware I made a mistake so I’m not looking to get lectured on using friends and family. This was on my Wells Fargo credit card through my PayPal account. I filed a dispute along with all of the evidence pointing to the fact that I bought something off of someone and it wasn’t received. To my knowledge I was told that Wells Fargo will open an investigation asking the merchant for proof, the scammer, which does not exist and has since closed his Reddit account as well as PayPal account, and if they don’t receive any proof it’ll be charged back. Am I correct in this? Will I get my money back on my credit card and will PayPal come after me for the balance afterwards? Thank you in advance for any advice I’m trying to remain hopeful.

Through out my watch journey I’ve spent thousands on Casios, Timex, random micro brands, etc. My most expensive being a Longines manual wind vintage 14k tank. Picked this up walking through Walmart and I feel like I’ve gone full circle. This 35mm Timex easy reader is giving grandpa vibes and I love it. The indiglo and easy to read face coupled with the price is next level. I threw on a cheap Amazon strap and I’ll be rocking this every day on the construction site. Sometimes simplicity is best and we over complicate things when it comes to collecting.
