AIO? My boyfriend told me his mother said she thinks conversations with me seem insincere
My boyfriend (20m) told me (21f) that his mother said something along the lines that conversations with me seem fake, and that she thinks I’m a people pleaser.
to preface, this conversation happened last night (Mother’s Day) and I was upset about a situation with my mother (I don’t really get along well with my parents at all), and I mentioned to my boyfriend that years ago I would often find myself thinking about getting along with my significant others parents because I don’t get along with mine at all. I’ve never had an issue with his mother, she has always been normal with me.
In the beginning of our relationship, she would come and speak to me often about random things like work and such and it made me ecstatic because it felt like I was having conversations or moments I wished I had with my own mother.
Anyways we were speaking about my situation and I told him about the whole getting along w parents thing and then he told me that his mom said what she said. He said that it’s because I nod a lot and I am a very expressive person and when I’m having conversations with anyone, I always make it known that I’m listening because I want the other person to know I’m being present.
I don’t know why this hurt me so bad, I thought I had good standing with her. Now I feel like an idiot and a try hard because I got her flowers and chocolates when I first met her, Valentine’s Day I got her a gift (I do for all the women in my life), and I was planning on giving her a late Mother’s Day gift today but I ultimately decided not to because it feels like it’s going to go in vain.
I don’t know, I’m really upset and I wish she liked me more. Is this common among parents? I’ve been in one otber serious relationship, other than this one, but I never met his parents because he didn’t want me to. But with this relationship, I met her almost a week into me and him officially dating.
