Sunrise Hike Huckleberry Point - Catskills

Hi everyone! Friends and I will be doing a sunrise hike at Huckleberry Point next month. I wanted to see if there’s anything to be aware of before doing so. Such as how long it takes to get to the peak.

Two things that I wasn’t sure of:

  1. There’s a very specific entrance and trail to take as the normal entrance is usually closed, is this true?
  2. There are rattlesnakes.

I’m interested to know if there’s anything else. I’d appreciate any info, thank you!!

Hi everyone! I’ll be doing a 300 mile bike ride in a few weeks, DC to NYC. It’s mostly road but there’s a few proper dirt and rocky trail sections at the D&R trail through New Jersey. I currently have a Haro V3 mountain bike and looking to ride my first road bike for this trip.

I’m looking for something affordable (which has been challenging) and found the Ozark Trail from Walmart for about $300. I saw a few people riding it during the Five Boro tour last weekend. I’ve heard only good things about this bike but wanted to know if I should make the switch… or I should just stick to my mountain bike?

I love my Haro V3 because I’m used to it and know how it works. But I think I could ride so much faster with a lot less energy with a road bike. And it’s always good to try new things. I’d love to know your thoughts!

Edit: thank you for the suggestions! Some clarifications to help understand the ride better:
- It’ll be over the course of 8 days, going 40-50 miles per day
- I’m pretty new to biking. I can do a 50 mile ride, but my mechanical knowledge is limited.

*Some people have suggested to continue riding with my Haro but to get mods. Do you have recs on what tires I should get? Thank you!
