I had my daughter tested for ADHD the last months, stemming from my own diagnosis and her reading issues (she’s 7). The appointment today for the results did not go great. I just see how clearly girls slip through the diagnosis criteria. “She’s a good girl.” “She sits still in class.” (Why the hell would she have adhd?!)

I am actively trying to not project my life and experience onto her, but we are so similar - day dreamers, low confidence, learns in a different way. I can tell she has already learned to mask and it’s just gut wrenching for me. Right now we decided to go with therapy and OT - so it’s not a total loss, but just trying to explain to this psychologist today how little research there is on girls and women compared to boys… and was met with a fixed stare, was so disappointing. I’m not sure what I even expected and didn’t have time to properly prepare (haha me actually “preparing” for something - right).

Just a very triggering day all around.
