Why does everyone hate Travelers?

Genuine question.

I am running a session for my birthday which could end up having anywhere from 13-20 people. I am a relatively experienced storyteller at this point but my largest game I've run so far has been a 12 person game. Every single time I see someone mention a game with a player count higher than 15, the general consensus is that people would much rather split up into two games before playing a game with 15+ and travelers. Many veterans even saying they would rather not play the game entirely than play with travelers. Logistically it will not be possible to split the group into two (only one grim, only one person that knows how to storytell), so I'm wondering what is it that people hate so much about travelers and is there anything I can do as the storyteller to mitigate some of that or make it a better experience? Or is the traveler hate mostly just unfounded?

The edges on some of my tokens are starting to peel from use. Just wondering if anyone here has tried using Mod Podge with a small brush on the edges of their tokens to seal them? Does this have a high chance of ruining my tokens? Any tips and tricks? Should I use regular Mod Podge or Puzzle Saver? Thanks in advance.
