Hi all,
I understand everyone's circumstances might not be as straightforward, but wanted to share my experience with the process as sometimes the overload of information can be a bit daunting.
Some quick background info:
- I'm Canadian, wife is from UK
- Married in Canada (Ontario) through City Hall process a little over a year ago
- Cash savings route as financial requirement
- No lawyers or consultants used
Submitted my application near the end of 2025 and got an approval early April. Filled out the application and only provided the documents in the checklist marked as required once the application was submitted and paid for.
As I used cash savings to meet the requirement the documents specific to that were 6 months of records holding the cash amount and a letter to claim I owned and had access to the funds. I drafted the letter with ChatGPT and just transferred it into a signed PDF document.
Uploaded all documents personally, attended my biometric appointment, no follow up for any further proof and just had to wait.
I think I overly hyped up how difficult this would be in my head, but did not have to share any relationship timeline with messages, photos, etc.
The process is quite straightforward, again specific to your situation obviously, but hoping this eases some stress for those in a similar situation.
