Hi all—

I own an above ground Hot Spring hot tub that came with my house.  I would guess the unit was 5-10 years old when I bought the house 8 years ago, but really have no idea.  I had it “tuned up” at the time we moved in and the spa tech came out and told me do this and do that and made it all see fairly easy.  We used the spa 2-3 times and then embarked on a complete remodel of our house and had to move out for a year.  Somewhere during that time the spa was unplugged and drained by the contractors. For whatever reason I just never refilled it or plugged it back in.  The unit has a plug that went into a regular socket—I assume this means it is a 120V “plug and play” model?

Fast forward to today, the unit is fairly old and has been sitting for a long time.  We are in the middle of remodeling our back yard now and the spa is slated to move to the other side of the yard to its new designated spot; there we plan to install a proper 240 power run to this area with shut off and all the code stuff.  Will this even work for our model with a regular plug?

I am beginning to wonder about the viability of this unit.  On the pro side, it’s free.  I already own it and new units are costly.  On the con side, I have no idea what unplugging a hot tub for 8 years with no water does to it (note we live in coastal So Cal where it does not freeze or get to 100 degrees).  It needs a new cover, but I don’t want to spend thousands on repairs if the seals are all gonna fail (or whatever else I don’t know about) later. It currently is in the middle of a construction zone so difficult to fill and power on, I have been trying to get a guy to come look at it.

Thoughts? Thx!
