Hi everyone,

I’m designing a custom ring for my engagement and would love advice before I order the setting.

I have a 3.5 ct lab-grown marquise diamond as the center stone:

The design I want is a bypass / open wrap ring with a large marquise center and two separated pear-shaped accent stones placed along the band, not tightly next to the center like a traditional three-stone ring. The band would also have small pavé stones.

I’m considering using:

  • Center stone: lab-grown diamond
  • Two pear accent stones: zircon
  • Small pavé stones on the band: zircon

(in my home country, lab diamond are still very expensive)

My questions:

  1. Would zircon pear side stones look noticeably different next to an E-color lab diamond center?
  2. For a ring size 6, is a 3,5 carat reasonable?
  3. What minimum band width would you recommend for durability with a 3.5 ct marquise?
  4. Are there any structural concerns with a bypass/open wrap design holding a 15.76 mm long marquise?
  5. What should I ask the jeweler to avoid, especially regarding pear placement, prongs, and stone security?
