Finished my Battle Brothers team for a firefight campaign!

As the title says, what game did you have expectatives but ended up being a disapointment, and what games did you expect nothing but ended up being something you enjoyed?

In my case, I always had a bad idea of Anima Beyond Fantasy, but once I played it and understood how and why it worked it was a blast. On the other hand, I had Lancer hyped quite a lot (myself being a mecha fan), with it being the largest mecha ttrpg currently, but when I played I ended up disliking most of it's decisions and mechanics.

Hello, I'm working on my own mecha ttrpg because I don't find anything on the market that fits my needs (sorry, I don't like Lancer), and I want to know the stuff that people like and want to see if I'm missing something.

Mechanical ideas, narrative ideas, anything goes.

EDIT: Someone said to list what I dislike about Lancer, so I'll sum it up.

My main problems with lancer are how mechanically it plays like dnd: you have short/long rests, hit dies, everything "resets" on a long rest, how licenses are class levels that can't be shared (one of my main gripes, why can't I just... give my rifle to a partner or pick one from a fallen enemy?). The 3d printers and how much they affect rules (like the licenses, long rests, lack of economy and logistics), and that due to them it's hard to play in another setting without them (and just handwaving all this stuff doesn't sit right with me).

In short, plays like dnd, the 3d printers are too necessary for the game and it's hard to play in another setting.
