I recently got into a disagreement with a friend that I am currently living with and have been for the last couple of years. Over the weekend two incidents happened that led to a disagreement and what is likely to be a friendship ending fallout. First, I purchased a new mattress to replace the old one that he "gifted" me when so moved in. Because there wasn't any room in the house, I decided to toss the thing. When my friend came home, he was livid that Id tossed out his mattress. I apologized and offered to compensate him financially for it. He accepted the terms but then didnt speak with me for several days. Then, last night, he confronted me about taping the dryer door shut, which I had done Saturday while washing my comforter top sheet and two throw pillows. The door regularly pops open whenever I wash this comforter, and as I didnt want to be stuck watching it every 10 minutes, I taped it. Its also a bulky but delicate comforter so I usually put them temp on low or air dry, so it takes even longer. So anyway, he confronts me about it saying that it was an egregious mistake that could have caused a fire as the door is supposed to pop open to prevent overloading, he spoke with several others about this and that they "gasped" when he told them what I had done, that my judgement was questionable and as a result he is asking me to leave and his decision is final because "if I have to choose between my house and my friendship with you im choosing my house."

Im not going to argue with him about it, but I'm pretty sure that that's not how dryer doors work and the machine would shut off internally if it was overloaded/overheating. He says he still loves and cares about me and hopes that this wont keep us from being friends in the future.

What do you guys think?
