Pooping far outside LR4
I have two cats (both about 8 y/o, one male and one female) and a LR4 as of about two months ago. Reinforced use of the LR4, used a transitional traditional litter box, everything has seemed to go swimmingly (if slowly) but while one cat uses the LR4 perfectly, the other (neutered male if it matters) only seems to pee there but not poop. He instead decides to go to the other side of the house (where no litter box has ever been) and poop on the rug. I tried going back to the LR4 in addition to a regular litter box for a week (keeping the regular litter box a bit dirtier than the LR4 to encourage use of the LR4) and after eliminating the regular litter box, after a day, again the same issue. I’ve used litter attractant for the LR4, spray to dissuade rug use, played around with delay times of the LR4 (it doesn’t seem to be conflict between his use and his sister’s use but just in case) and as much behavioral treatment as I can in the moment (difficult because I work far from home and without WiFi access so I can’t keep tabs on them daily), but I could use advice, what should I do? I’d really like to eliminate regular litter boxes if possible but not sure how to get him acclimated. Is there another brand that’s more open top (my only other hypothesis for why he prefers a more wide open space for pooping vs urinating)?
