Letter of Medical Necessity Request Rejected by OBGYN

Hey everyone! Curious for opinions on this. I just saw about a week and a half ago that the Litter Robot claims to be FSA eligible. I'm about 11 weeks pregnant so this would be my medical reason. I asked my new OBGYN for a letter so I could purchase the Litter Robot from Costco, and got a reply today that she would not write me one for the following reasons:

"Regarding the request for a Letter of Medical Necessity for an automated litter box, these letters generally require documentation that a specific device is the only clinical means to prevent a health complication and that a less expensive option is not available.

Per standard prenatal guidelines, the medical recommendation is to delegate all litter box maintenance to another member of the household or a service during your pregnancy. Because the risk of Toxoplasmosis can be fully mitigated by having someone else perform the task or by using gloves and handwashing, an automated device is considered a personal preference rather than a medical requirement. I am happy to provide a general letter stating that you should avoid changing cat litter if that helps with your household arrangements.

Additionally, if you have a cat that is only indoors, the risk of the cat carrying Toxoplasmosis is almost zero."

I'm disappointed in this answer not just because she's denying this particular request, but more because I feel like my wishes as a patient are being disregarded with no follow up. She doesn't know my personal situation so I don't think suggesting another member of the household do it is an appropriate solution, and "paying a service" would certainly cost more than buying a litterbox.

Anyway, I feel like just trying to purchase through Litter Robot directly and using their contracted letter mill if my legit doctor is going to ignore this request. Has anyone else had an experience like this with their regular doctor or if the FSA/HSA request worked for you, did you just use the letter provided by Litter Robot?

*Not here to open a debate on whether Litter Robot should or should not ethically be eligible for FSA/HSA funds, just the logistics on how it can be successfully approved.

At what waste % do you all change your waste bag?

I’ve got notification as early as 40% when it was barely filled but now it’s at 63% and may be good to change now. I guess I foolishly assumed you’d wait until it was 100% or at least 80%

Another smell post

I have no idea why it’s smelling but it’s driving me crazy.

Ive tried different litters (currently using boxie pro) to see if that will help. It’s not. I clean it out, cycle out the litter, use a deodorizer and a deodorizing spray and I’m still able to smell it. I use the big Costco trash bags in the drawer and I add deodorizer and their scent packets but still having an isssue. I’m about to change the carbon filter out but I literally can’t deal with it smelling. It’s also not cycling at times so I have to manually go cycle it out. Even after it’s cycled I can still smell it. I’ve cleaned the liner with enzyme sprays. Vacuum the drawer compartment and I can still smell it 😭😭😭

Help pleaseeeee

Help with Transitioning my cat

We got out LR5pro mmmm 3 weeks ago I believe. I’ve seen all three of my cats utilizing it. However I’ve caught my 1 cat pooping on our livingroom rug a total of 3 times now. I’m not sure what to do 😭 she uses it both pee and poop but for some reason decides what seems like randomly to take advantage of my rug. We had their old litter box out for 2 weeks but felt like they were using the new one enough to take the old one away. Previously none of my cats have had accidents. Anyone else experienced this? LR4 with LitterHopper - Wasting litter

So I bought a new LR4 and decided to get the LitterHopper. I made sure the litter in the globe was at the level it should be (no excess litter winding up in the waste tray - wasn’t overfilled). But each time it cycled it would add more litter from the hopper, as it is designed to d0, but which then wound up in the waste tray after going thru the next cycle because it would be ‘overfilled’. I wound up going thru a 16lb bag of litter under a week with a single cat! That’s crazy. Fresh litter is nice but this seemed out of control. (meanwhile I have ‘reset’ the LR4 and I have reduced the amount of litter in the globe below the fill line but hopefully still enough for kitty to feel comfy and shall test this feature again).

Anyone else finding that the LitterHopper wasting their litter that way?

How to level it on an very uneven floor

I’m not very handy but as we continue to search for a good place for our LR4, the family has voted on a corner where a thick rug is about 8” from the wall. So the Litter robot will be partially on hardwood floor and partially on the rug.

It is not an option to move the rug as it is symmetrical in the space plus has a huge L shaped sofa on it.

So I’m thinking to buy a thick piece of wood and then put something on the hardwood side to raise it even with the rug. Has anyone done something like this?

Re-learning to litter robot

Spent months training easily freaked out cat to use and he started using consistently. Then the robot spazzed out when one edge ended up in the groove between tiles and kept cycling sideways. I think he tried to get in before I recognized it and now he’s not using it at all. Anyone have experience with this? Were they able to use it again?

Litter Sticking to Globe

Any recommendations for dealing with the clumped litter always sticking to the globe? Currently using Scoop Away litter from Costco, but I’ve tried various brands and types of litter with the same results. The urine clumps and then just sticks to the globe. I use a litter rake to scrape it off and then manually cycle the machine but at this point it’s just a litter box with extra steps. Even tried the beeswax approach but I’m not sure it made any difference. Also, very difficult to get it warm enough to apply it to the globe.

Which litter robot would be best?

We currently have a litter robot 3. We’ve had it for 4 years and love it! We’ve had to replace a few things along the way but love that we can buy replacement pieces. We have two cats and are contemplating getting one or two kittens this summer. I read the LR3 can hold up to four cats. I saw the LR4 and LR5 can hold up to 5 cats. Would it be better to upgrade? We don’t want to put too much strain on our current model.

Is anyone else having this problem with the app?

I don't know what to do. Its been going on for the past few days.

Two Robots, Only One Connecting to the Web

Hey I've got two litter robot 3's that up until about a month or two ago were working fine. Recently however the app can only really control one of them. The other unit shows up but doesn't respond to commands.

I tried factory resetting it and it took several hours of resetting before I could get it to join back up to the app, but since that time I still can't control the device. Any action just results in the button spinning forever with nothing happening on the actual device. Meanwhile the other litter robot is perfectly fine and works as it should.

I don't see any blocked outbound traffic on the firewall, and I turned on UPNP just to see if it was that, but I'm still not getting any progress.

As a note both of these units are the 'connect via wifi' model and don't join via bluetooth when onboarding them

LR4 feels wobbly after cleaning — normal or did I mess something up?

Hey all,

I took the globe out of my LR4 today to give it a thorough cleaning. After putting everything back together (with litter hopper), I’m noticing a bit of wobble when the I press the litter hopper.

I can’t tell if it was always like this and I just never paid attention, or if something’s off after reassembly. It’s not super dramatic, but definitely noticeable.

I also checked anti-tip guard, it looks ok(a little bit off the ground as the instructions said).

Has anyone experienced this before?

Is a slight wobble normal?

Could I have misaligned something when putting it back?

Anything specific I should check (like the base, track, or positioning)?

Appreciate any advice — just want to make sure I didn’t mess anything up or miss something obvious.

Thanks!

Less than a month post warranty this thing is quitting on me… so disappointed

My litter robot less than one month post warranty is acting up. On the day it got full I changed out the bag at the end of the day but it still said full. No matter what for days it said full. So I recalibrated but still…. Full

And now whenever I start the recalibration process it holds a single green light for 20-30 seconds before it starts and it never does the green or red confirmation that the stupid thing completed.

I deep cleaned these damn sensors with a cloth and vacuum and q tip and now it says sensors dirty constantly. I’m so upset I feel like I wasted money on this thing and I’m at a loss.

LR4 Just won’t work

Our litter robot 4 consistently says it is full after 1-2 cycles. I’ve tried multiple solutions on the website to recalibrate and nothing is working. We also have an auto litter dispenser that NEVER dispenses, probably because it constantly thinks it is full

We’ve resorted to just manually cycle cycling it whenever we pass by but it’s causing stinky saturated litter and is just a general nuisance.

This is our second litter robot and I want to love it. But I’m so over it. What am I doing wrong?? Any solutions??

Litter Robot 4 -> 5 Upgrade

Hey all -

I’ve upgraded from the 4 to the 5 and now I have several items that are no longer compatible that I’m looking to sell or trade.

- I have a sealed box LR4 Globe

- A out of box mint LR4 Ramp and Hinge (still inside the white bag they ship in)

- A used LR4 Credenza aka “Coffee Oak Storage Cabinet” (still inside pissed off that the LR5 doesn’t fit - it was double the price when I originally bought it 4 yrs ago.)

- a used LR4 Ramp w/ hinge and a LR4 Shield

If anyone is interested please PM me, if this is unallowed mods please delete.

Appreciate everyone’s time.

Not the red & yellow lights…

Y’all. My beloved LR4 gave me the dreaded red and yellow lights and will not move.

I’ve been watching YouTube videos and praying to the robot gods that I can get this beauty back on track. For the love of kittens, I can’t go back to scooping litter.

I have the thing disassembled, cleaned and checked all the bits and bobs. Seems like it passes the troubleshooting steps. However, I have this strip of important looking something that has come unstuck. Does anyone know if this bit is mission critical? Do I reassemble without it? Call the Genius Bar at LR and beg for help?

If you’ve dealt with this in the past, please let me know. Goose, Watson & Malibu thank you in advance.

Would I be crazy to just toss my Litter Robot 4 and buy a brand new one

My cat has extremely awful bathroom habits, due to her stomach cancer, leaving the litter robot to become a filthy mess (she literally projectile poos). She would also often drag her diarrhea poop out and it would be in the tiny crevices of the steps. I had to clean it with toilet paper covered toothpicks. I was also at one point in an apartment with weird pest issues and maggots would find their way in the litter robot and hatch eggs. That was awful. I left that apartment and deep cleaned the litter robot at a friend's backyard that had a hose. It took 5 hours and I thought I was going to puke the whole time and I needed an everything shower.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a backyard anymore and I don't even have a patio. I've been cleaning just with wipes but it doesn't cut it anymore and it got so bad that I gave up on cleaning and got the shield so I don't have to look at it or smell it. I also have back issues at the moment that makes it hard to really get in there to clean it so I've been putting it off. However, I am moving once again and downsizing even more to a studio.

At this point I'm considering just ditching the current litter robot. I still see bits and pieces of dried up maggots in the very back behind the waste bin, and I remember the last time I tried to clean the filter area with high pressure water, the dead maggots would never end. I'm sure there's still some in there. The plastic globe top has also yellowed (I got the white one, but now it is just yellow lol), not sure how, I live by the beach so it gets quite moist and humid in the house.

I'm overwhelmed with other things (my cat now peeing and pooping in random places in the house, unfortunate additional health concerns of hers that I'm attending to), and at this point I'm like, should I just throw it away and buy the EVO. Or a used one from FB marketplace. I can't get the mental energy or the physical energy to clean this one. I am considering taking it to a car wash but then again my back pain makes me just not want to. This thing is so damn heavy and just with everything going on with her illness I'm so overwhelmed! These things are so expensive but I've been stacking vet bills to keep her with me so it'll just be another dent in the wallet I don't even care anymore. Just want her to have a clean litter box, I want a fresh start with one :( Ugh what would you guys do?

Whisker App not working

Last few days my Whisker App doesn't want to open. I click it, while screen turns yellow with the logo like it's going to but it ends up just flashing on the screen and closing. I've cleared cache, restarted phone and it worked. But then a bit later when I went to look at it, its reverted back to doing the same thing.

Need litter recommendations for High Volume Pee-ers

Those of you with Kidney cats know the actual lakes they pee. I’m finding that our Fresh Step Simply Unscented is having trouble absorbing all the urine quick enough - leading to the occasional wet litter paws which is incredibly unpleasant for them and for me.
