Day 2 of UFC 6 Beta (Real Review)
Not gonna lie, I was super frustrated on Day 1 because the game was not what I expected. I come from UFC Undisputed 3 and I’ve always dreamed of a better grappling system with better takedowns and transitions. So when I played UFC 6 and saw that the grappling is almost the same as UFC 5, it was a let down.
What I will say however is that I have sobered up from the hate after playing one game on Day 2. OMG is the striking so much better than it has ever been. Striking is the best it’s been on any UFC game ever. It really feels like you’re playing as the character. They have their own animations and way of moving. Just imagine Undisputed Boxing but way better because you will get knocked out for being reckless on this one. It’s way more fluid and feels more realistic.
Is this game what many had expected? Absolutely not. But EA was transparent that they did not work too much on the grappling. But is this game miles better than UFC 5? Absolutely. The striking actually feels super super freaking fun. Now they could do away with the hit overlays and maybe a cleaner HUD. They could also do away with the filter when going on Flow State. But man am I having fun striking in this game.
You actually have to play to your character’s strengths in this. And if you pick a trash character, it’s going to be noticeable. In the same way Whittaker can’t mess with Alex Pereira in real life, you can feel that in the game. You gotta work extra hard to beat that dude and it should be like this because he’s such a monster in real life. Don’t go out there tryna strike toe to toe with him, you gon eat a left hook and hit the ground. You gon have to be more technical. Mix up the striking and grappling. A few cliches here and there, takedowns and all that. (That’s where we need better ground game because it’ll make the game that much more exciting. We need to be able to throw elbows as fighters do in real life. Not just single elbow that glues you back down to the bottom fighter)
CONCLUSION: This game is promising. I mean truly promising. This game is not where it needs to be. But it definitely is headed in the right direction. If you’re someone who truly loves striking, this is the game for you. You will enjoy it. If you’re someone who loves grappling, wait till UFC 7. I’m sure that by then they will have began shifting their focus to that discipline because imo, they’re exactly where they needa be with striking on this one. Yall lmk what yall think.
