Greetings,
Need some advise please.
- Home Re-roofed in 2015 using Owens Corning Oakridge Shingles in Central Florida by a OC Platinum Roofer.
- Home was built in 1984 and has 1 x 12 Roof Deck.
- Had 4 or 5 small leaks starting in 2022. Installation Roofer came out and repaired the.
- Additional leaks present in late 2024. Called Installation Roofer but they are out of business.
- Filed a claim with OC. Paid an other local OC Platinum Roofer to inspect the roof and prepare a report with repair/replace recommendations as required by OC. Report indicated roof should be replaced due to age of shingles and poor worksmanship; specifically nails shot through gaps in the roof decking popping up, rusting and causing leaks.
- Owens Corning sent out an inspector and their final judgement was they would replace the ventilation and hip/ridge shingles but that would be all. OC said the Platinum Roofer installed the OC Roofing System over plank decking with gaps that exceeded manufacturer guidelines for proper installation and therefore not within the scope of their workmanship warranty.
Do I have any recourse here? The Installation Roofer replaced 235 ft of 1x12s during the install, and did not mention any other portions of the roof deck were out of spec. Is the homeowner expected to be responsible for the OC Platinum Roofer' Workmanship? Shouldn't that be vetted by Owens Corning?
Thanks in advance for any ideas or comments.
