After heating it to 305°F for 15min, the balsam liquified. Top element slipped a bit, a strong smell of pine tar and some yellow tint. These are pictures after cooling back. Left is elements together how they dried, and right is front elements separated. Next test will be trying to clean all balsam off. Likely need to heat it again.

I would like to fix this lens myself. How does one get rid of this balsam seperation?

I would like to better understand the differences at the chemical level and their impact on the results , between CD-3 and CD-4 in color films of all kind. Why ECN-2 went with CD-3, and regular C-41 process film with CD-4, what shifts to expect and how these color developing agents affect the process. Is it more than hue and saturation?

Is there a table available with hue and saturation variations expected from dyes?

Being sulfates of some kind, can we also play with their properties such as acidity to adjust hue and saturation?

Has anyone tried both or compared reproduction qualities of system V lenses (say CF) vs XCD lenses when copying / scanning negatives with the 907x/X2D?

The 135mm CF lens and bellows achieves 1:1 just fine. Its a Makro-Planar and best at 1:1.
Now, for “scanning” its supposedly not as tack-sharp as XCD lenses.

An 120mm XCD lens needs an extention for achieving 1:1, Hasselblad only offers 9mm but there is a 11mm fotodiox makes that should help the 120mm XCD achieve 1:1 repro.

Has anyone compared or owns a 120mm XCD lens for repro work?

Thanks,

I went hiking and fell. From a pocket, two focussing screen feel and ran down the hill. There are some pretty nasty scratches on both. Any tips or tricks to see if they can be salvaged?
