I've never been there so am looking for some inside information about the best places to live for (ideally) $1000month. I like the idea of being as central as possible, but South Philly looks really interesting - being closer to the airport is a plus for sure. Are there pockets of South Philly that are more walkable than others with a good residential/commercial mix?
Or is there another area entirely that I should check out? Fishtown looks rad, as does Old City... but is it possible to get a studio or 1bed for $1000 in those places? And what does that commute look like?
Philadelphia was my first choice as a base because it is a major international hub for my airline and that's the type of travel I am most interested in, but also because I love history and living places with 4 seasons. I lived in downtown Los Angeles for several years and am not precious about areas that aren't spotless & gentrified, a little gritty is okay.
I have three weeks of school left then I'm shipped straight to my new hometown :)
Looking forward to any thoughts!
