Which series are best represented in Super Smash Bros?

Often people complain about certain series being overrepresented or underrepresented in Super Smash Bros

I decided to take a look at all the ways in which series are represented in Smash, see which are the most represented, whether any are "over" or "under" represented, and if so, why so?

By exploring the links that Super Smash Bros has to other games, I try and find just how far you can stretch the Super Smash Bros "multiverse" using official crossovers

Hello,

Back when Smash Ultimate first came out, I made this post where I counted all the different ways that different series are represented across all the Smash games, and then, weighted by the how significant each way is (e.g. characters are more significant that stages, which are more significant than assist trophies, which are more significant than spirits), and totalled them to find how much each series is represented

I said I would revisit it once all the DLC was out - well as no new content has come out for two years, I think we can safely say we can do a final count now.

There's much more about my methodology, and how I adjusted the weightings, on the original post if you are curious, but please note there is obviously some subjectivity involved - if you disagree with my weightings, I have included my spreadsheet below, which you can copy and adjust the weightings as you see fit.

With all the updated content, here are the final counts for all the series with characters:

Rank Universe Score
Mario (Superverse) 7139
1 Mario 4702
2 Pokemon 4259
3 Smash Bros 2820
4 Zelda 2459
5 Fire Emblem 1659
6 Kirby 1651
7 Metroid 1354
8 Donkey Kong 1241
9 Kid Icarus 1163
Mii (Superverse) 1020
10 Animal Crossing 984
11 Star Fox 872
12 Earthbound 855
13 Xenoblade 739
14 F-Zero 648
15 Yoshi 631
16 Mega Man 619
17 Splatoon 579
18 Castlevania 568
19 Pikmin 552
20 Street Fighter 545
21 Sonic 528
SNK (Superverse) 482
22 Final Fantasy 479
23 Wario 447
24 Tekken 414
25 Dragon Quest 383
26 Minecraft 364
27 ARMS 342
28 Metal Gear 331
29 Persona 308
30 Bayonetta 304
31 Pac-Man 299
32 Game & Watch 288
33 Kingdom Hearts 287
34 Punch-Out!! 286
35 Wii Fit 279
36 Ice Climbers 277
37 Fatal Fury 260
38 Banjo-Kazooie 228
39 Duck Hunt 193
40 R.O.B. 152

Find here a stacked bar chart showing the scores of each series (that scored at least 50) and how much score they get from each category of contribution:

As someone with no experience with the SNK games, I wasn't really sure how to treat that series, as SmashWiki is very inconsistent with whether it counts the non-Fatal Fury SNK games (such as King of Fighters and Art of Fighting) as part of the Fatal Fury universe - I decided to treat it as I had with Mario, where each is their own Universe, but I also included an SNK superverse, including them all

With the updated totals, Fire Emblem overtook Kirby into 5th place, Xenoblade moved from 22nd to 13th, and Final Fantasy moved from 30th to 22nd.

Also, even without a new character, its added costumes and spirits meant that Splatoon was able to rise from 19th to 17th.

If you count the SNK superverse as one series, it is the best represented of the new series - if not that honour goes to Tekken - this is largely down to the number of music tracks, the most significant variable between the fighter packs.

I did more analysis of these results in my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/anr000/which_series_are_best_represented_in_super_smash/

And as promised here is my spreadsheet for you to copy and play around with should you choose to:
