I guess this is more a discussion for people who have been in the game for a very long time or at least have read the "Realms of Chaos" books from the 1st edition.

Custom daemons used to be a thing and they really didn't have to be aligned with the 4 big ones. I feel like "chaos" lost its meaning when it became very neatly organized and rigid. It's even more apparent when you play the game and your units are all stuck in units of 10, completely ignoring the lore.

The novels sometimes describe daemons in a chaotic way but very often now it's just descriptions of the current minis. I feel like chaos would be a lot more interesting if it went back to its roots. Because as it stands, the orks are almost a better representation of chaos than the daemons are. (Though I don't know how rigid it will become with the 11th edition)

The codices for the chaos god aligned legions make it even worse by cutting out everything from the CSM codex. This is particularly painful for the EC.

And the 4 chaos gods daemons never even had a full codex of their own. It feels like they were planning on expanding those but like it didn't sell enough.

Also AOS gets a lot of cool toys we don't get to play with and it's amazingly frustrating.

It really feels like growing up and being told by your parents "you can be whatever you want to be" then being constantly told "No, not like that." And in this metaphor James Workshop is the parent, obviously. Then he adds "Only those four. Be grateful you have them."

Edit: corrected info after someone pointed it out.
