I Love Joffrey Barannister

I Love Joffrey Barannister

The most entertaining character in the series who’s revelling in cruelty was unmatched by anyone other than the Ramster. You can just tell this kid is enjoying being King so much, and why shouldn’t he? He knows his claim to the throne is rocky and he could have it all taken away at any moment so why not live it up?

I also love how intelligent he is, like his cruelty is juvenile at times but there’s a wicked cleverness to it. Like who would have thought to just straight up yank Tyrion’s stool at his wedding? And Joff knew exactly what he was doing when he opened the white book in front of his uncle-dad Jaime, boy knew full well that man’s page was practically blank, “someone forgot to write down all you great deeds” 😂 like the mean shit he comes up with I wouldn’t even think to consider lol like “I’m going to serve it to Sansa at my wedding feast” kid just came up with that on the spot lol.

He also just has great interactions with the other characters on the show like nothing really lives up to Tyrion and Tywin putting him in his place when he threw his lil temper tantrums, and it’s hilarious watching Marg blatantly manipulate him. Watching him have his lil childish meltdowns was particularly entertaining “you’re talking to a king!!! 😭😭” 😂

Ramsey was fun in S3, pretending to free Theon before bringing him right back to the Dreadfort and then pretending to be a Karstark 😂, but it all got a bit ridiculous after that, a bit too Machiavellian and ten steps ahead type shit, but overall he was a decent successor to Joff. Euron was just such a massive step down in filling the show psycho role, he just didn’t do much and felt really performative.

But yh, out of every character lost in the front half of the series it’s poor Joff I miss the most 😢

▲ 8 r/ugly

So obviously we all know that beauty standards are constructed in a way not just to consolidate power and opportunity for those deemed “pretty”, it’s purpose is also to sell the idea that beauty is attainable for those with the capital to purchase the right products to beautify themselves. But a common point to attempt to side step the reality of discrimination against the ugly is to say that people don’t really care about looks, personality is more important.

But the truth is, “personality” (or other terms and phrases such as “be interesting”, “work on yourself”, “get hobbies”) is also a commodity. The things people point out that makes someone interesting, whether it’s their fashion sense, a skill they have, a hobby, all of these things have a currency based barrier to entry. Not everybody can afford to buy new clothes each month to “find their style” when it never works out. Not everybody had the privilege of being presented with an activity to become proficient in from childhood which they can take into adulthood. There’s a monetary barrier of entry to the hobbies people consider more “interesting”.

What people really need to do if they want to be as tolerant and accepting and progressive as they claim is to not be so judgmental of people who initially come off as “boring”. People who wear “trashy” clothes, don’t speak multiple languages, don’t go on a ski holiday at their parent’s resort twice a year or have access to the specific hobbies people find more “interesting”.
