Problems with doing things out of the love for Allah
As-salamu alaykum,
I converted to Islam 1½ years ago. I don't come from a religious family. Just so you know.
I have a problem and I hope I can find some help here.
I'm always "astonished" when I read about other Muslims who say that their first thought when they do something is always, "I do it out of love for Allah."
I somehow miss the feeling by myself.
For example: I pray because the Quran prescribes that I should pray five times a day. I dress modestly (without hijab but inshallah) because the Quran prescribes it and out of respect for my husband.
I do good deeds because Allah prescribes that we should do them and I want to do good things to other people, but I always miss that my first thought is, "I do it out of love for Allah."
Please don't misunderstand me, and I hope you understand what I mean.
I believe in Allah, in His Prophet Muhammad, and in destiny through Allah.
I also fast during Ramadan, but my reason is always, "It's written in the Quran."
What about you? Am I missing something? Do i need time to get this feeling? Is there anything I can do to change my mind?
Please don't judge me. I already feel bad just writing this.
I hope you can help me.
