Dentist appointment identified an abscess

Hi guys,

I was at the dentist today and they identified an abscess so I need to get a root canal.

For reference the symptoms have been there for about 2-3 weeks and at this particular point in time there is no pain. They offered me the option of root canal or extraction (I have a wisdom tooth they think could drop down after extraction but I don't wanna risk it)

I booked in for a root canal treatment but the appointment is 3 weeks from tomorrow.

How bad is having abscess symptoms for 5 weeks before a root canal?

I imagine if it was a dire situation they'd rush me up but 3 weeks was the nearest available appointment.

They gave me 5 days of Amoxycillin and Duraphant toothpaste.

Should I try push for a sooner appointment or am I overreacting?

Googling has me in a panic but googling symptoms always gives the worst outcomes.

Any advice or help welcome

Sorry about the quality it took me a long time to get a photo of it. Basically have this red blistery thing on the roof of my mouth. I figure initially it might be a coldsore as I had one outside my mouth recently. Its painless and its been there about a week. Started as a big swelling and reduced to that almost immediately. Gums are swollen a bit on the far side of the teeth and this area is around a filling thats over a year old. No other symptoms to note that I can think of. No smell or taste and the feeling of the blister is very similar to a pimple or a blister. No unmanageable pain sometimes it feels a bit tender and occasionally sort of a pulse or throbbing feeling. If anything the blister itself doesn't feel like its cause any issues but the cheek flesh and gums on the opposite side are feeling super uncomfortable despite not visually seemingly any different than usual. Maybe a touch swollen?

I drink some alcohol once a week. I dont smoke but I do vape moderately.
