Best venues/promoters/fanzines in Berlin to find good underground bands?
I've been trying to discover new up and coming bands in Berlin over the last couple of years, and in that time I've come across lots of great local support acts, or bands playing really small gigs.
I've looked around to see if there are any fanzines or websites that promote bands that are either not yet established, or still playing small gigs, and unfortunately I haven't been able to find any yet.
Can anyone recommend any bands that
- play live music, with instruments, as opposed to singers with a backing track.
- Are at the stage where they are pulling less than 100 people per gig.
- Are at the start of their career, which is usually the point where you really see them changing and developing at each gig, or they are on a pretty hot creative streak at the moment and playing one off shows, as opposed to tours?
- that play in small venues where it's not too expensive to get in, less than 10 euros would be ideal.
So far I've been going to venues that include:
Schokoladen
Donau115
Lark
Bar Bobu
Neue Zukunft
Posh Teckel
And some of the bands I've liked the most are:
Emperor X
Gossamer Sea
Flavie Mialon
Marcel Gidote's Holy Crab
Laura Lee and the Jettes
Mermaid Man
Kitty Solaris
There's a Spotify link to those bands below.
Can anyone recommend any resources that would point me in the direction of any other good underground music? Whether that be promoters that usually put on good bands, fanzines, compilations, or the bands themselves, any advice is gratefully received.
Back from 2001 until 2005 I managed to see over a thousand bands, as I was working full time in the music industry at the time, in London. I still work full time in music, but parenthood has meant that I haven't been able to go to as many concerts recently as I'd like, and I want to get back out there. If anyone fancies also seeing some gigs as well, let me know! Thanks!
