took a nap and dreamt the plot of a romantic comedy
im sick and despite having no interest in romantic comedies, i took a nap and dreamt that i wrote a romance novel and it was adapted into a movie.
here is what i remember:
a young American woman named Tonya English (her name is relevant later) is dragged by her family on a vacation to an unspecified city in Ireland (its actually intentionally unspecificied with the city in the movie being an amalgamation of multiple cities.) while on their way back to the airport, she gets separated from her family at a bus terminal and ends up missing her flight. with no money and no way to get home, she wanders into a pub and meets some locals. she sings a song with some of them, and also meets a young lesbian who offers to help her out. at the same time though, the middle aged owner of the pub begins eyeing her.
she leaves the pub with the other girl, and tonya suggests going into the nearest catholic church to see if someone in there can help, since she is also catholic and the church is where she always goes for help in the small town in ohio where she is from. when they wander in looking for someone, though, she stumbles into the back room where some shady mob dealings are going on, being headed by the pub owner from earlier. the girls flee, but the pub owner saw them and now is sending goons to persue her through the streets of the city.
at one point while running from the mob, she sees a young man and becomes infatuated with him, much to the chagrin of the young lesbian who is helping her out. the lesbian brings her back to the house where she lives and introduces her to her roommates/bandmates, but the goons catch up with her and she has to run again.
this all leads up to the climax where the middle aged pub owner/mob boss has her tied up to a chair and is telling her that she has to keep quiet and also marry him, to "atone for the sins of her ancestors". she explains that her ancestors aren't actually english, they just chose that name when they immigrated to the US.
somehow she escapes, and i have no idea what happens after this point.
the name of the movie was "Wild & Green".
