We have a 2 stage HVAC unit and it runs off times it has a "wake" "leave" "home" and "sleep" time frame. The unit is only 4/5years old, its an all in one AC/Furnace. We live in a hot area, in a two story house.

Currently the thermostat is set at 78 for all the run times. Which means its 72 downstairs and 80 upstairs and our unit is constantly running as the thermostat is upstairs in the direct sun from a sun light.

It there an energy efficient way to program the thermostat?

How is it best to use these systems?
