She was taken on a Sunday morning, in the rain, taking out the garbage.
Marissa Lovato wakes up in a stranger's house with broken bones, a central line in her chest, and no way out. The man responsible is also the man keeping her alive: a criminal who trained as a physician, who sits in a recliner counting her breaths through the night, who sent someone to walk her dogs and writes things in the margins of medical notes that were never meant to be read.
She has a plan. She has always had a plan.
What she didn't plan for was him.
Lennon Grove is dangerous in every way that matters and tender in every way she didn't expect, and Marissa is running out of reasons to leave that are stronger than the ones she's finding to stay.
She came in as leverage. She left as something he couldn't afford to lose.
The question is whether leaving will cost more than staying ever could.
