I’m 18F, I graduated high school early in 2024 (started school very early) and now since I took AP courses and dual enrollment in high school, I am graduating with my BS degree in 2027.
As it goes, I am pre-med, specifically pediatrics, so I am taking my MCAT this June and apply in the summer following my MCAT result. Though this hospitality and healthcare makes me feel good, where I like to help others, learn about the human body, and study the sciences, I have this weird burning desire to pursue music; by music I mean producing, singing, playing, etc.
For context, I started playing piano when I was roughly 5, played violin all throughout middle/high school, and had to mostly drop the classical instruments when I got to university. I have been writing my own music since I was 12, and to this day I’m still working on my own songs and practicing instruments.
Contrastingly, I have been interested in various healthcare careers throughout my life, from dentist, to chiropractor, to pediatrician. I have over 200 hours volunteering at the hospital, and my Asian parents have always encouraged me to pursue a career in healthcare and discourage me from changing my mind too often about what I should pursue, even within healthcare.
Just posting this here to gather thoughts from outside. I could take a gap year to figure things out (and even retake the MCAT since I barely had time to study) but my father is urging me to not divert from my path and just go for it.
Should I just continue to be a doctor? Should I fight and become a musician? Is there a way to do both?
