The TLDR of these is they’re in depth journal type entries about my current experiences weekly or bi weekly of GLP1. I do not want to do shorter versions because when I was trying to find info on this from the hashis community I find mostly small commentary’s on posts with questions, or small paragraphs. For the rest of my posts starting week 1 they’re in this sub group.

I waited two weeks for this update because the first update for week 5 will mostly be about my period. If you don’t like that kind of thing, skip to week 6 area on this entry.

During when I learned about FODMAP and had a fleet of doctors on my care, one doctor talked about how your period starting with darker or dry blood indicated that the last period didn’t run its length. That basically your period is healthier if it starts all with a deep red blood that is “fresh” per se. Not a darker blood going brown.

FODMAP did slightly change the color but I had yet to get a really red period. My doctor did warn that if I bleed too much or it doesn’t stop then that is something to let them know about. I have PCOS and she mentioned how it can reduce symptoms almost completely and make getting pregnant very easy.

I joked with FODMAP it was like a second puberty. My two periods on the GLP1 remind me of when I was younger, as if it really is a hormonal puberty thing. The major difference now was before my period, I normally have insane breast pain, and I had none.

My blood flow was a lot, and that was a good thing. Hashimotos had basically given me amenorea till FODMAP. I had 1-2 day periods that were just spotting. Then I got bad cramps after FODMAP fixed it up a bit.

I still had the standard period cramps and issues there. I found they resolved faster though. Period poops were through the roof. I don’t know if that’s GLP1 or not, but I think it could be because the cramping gets things going, and since there’s slower gastric emptying I suspect it moved things along faster.

Emotionally my period felt slightly more stable.

My period seems to be the way that my body resets a new “set point” weight. The weight you fluctuate at every day on the scale after dropping weight.

On the scale, I lost 11 lbs last month. But I shot up 4 of those lbs as fluctuated weight day to day. I thought water weight. Now I lost 3 of those lbs. so I am still 11 lbs down, not 14 on the scale, because the new set weight is actually remaining 10 lbs down on the scale. That said, I dropped a pant size, and think it may be a little more than 3 lbs. Some of my shirts are noticeably baggier.

Some of my cravings for foods were up during my period compared to other weeks. For example, still wanted candy and chocolate.

During the week of my period, I also had a family issue going on that’s been contributing to my stress levels. I write a lot about how it has stopped my Hashimotos flares. Alas, I have found its limit. The stress from the family issue was very serious, and I did have a flare the week of my period. What I can say is, it resolved faster than others. I did have some lasting dermatitis at night, and some breakthrough stomach issues. However usually my stomach issues would make me diarrhea all day, or run back and forth pooping and instead it was mostly an ache that didn’t get continuously set off, or have too much tummy problems from foods I ate that then set it off again. I was impressed that is resolved. For me one of the struggles of Hashimotos is I could never resolve the issue it took way too long. So though it was set off, after about 2-3 days it was very mild and by day 4 almost totally resolved. For me a triggered episode could’ve previously lasted 2-3 weeks depending on what triggered it and if the stress was still going on.

Ironically, since I have issues with insomnia since Hashimotos, all that week I got to bed easily and much sooner. Normally with an episode that’s not the case. Progressively I’ve been getting to bed week by week about 1 hour earlier. It’s the slowest positive I’ve seen taking effect. At first I thought it was coincidence but now I’ve gotten closer and closer to 1 am and 12 am it definitely isn’t.

During week five I took the entire week off of exercise. I had too much going on emotionally, my body was very ill, and with my period it was a no go. I did some minor walking and golfed 2 days but trained nothing with ANY intensity. I felt this was more rejuvenating for my mental and physical health.

Week 6:

Week 6 was the big one for me where I realized after an episode my life could get back on track and I could rebound.

For this reason, I have signed up for my first wrestling competition in years. I’d been telling my teammates if I felt healthy I would by May. Well, thats come due. I never thought the answer would be yes, honestly. I was really scared both to compete, but that I’d never compete again. One of my sports legends retired because of a chronic stomach issue. And for me, when I saw that, I realized I may never have a chance to compete like I used to for fun.

On week 6 I returned to the gym with the same energy, more spry, and still most of my flexibility having returned since I started GLP1 and a I realized I could.

I want to say that prior to my Hashimotos I could do pretty cool flexibility tricks, and had almost a full split etc, all relevant to my sport. When I got Hashimotos I thought it was hashis or my weight that made it go away. It ended up being hashis inflammation. When the GLP1 began my flexibility has just been coming back and back where it counts. There’s some areas I can see will need a massage etc, but it’s already back in my splits, inverting, and more. This really mattered to me as even sitting I was starting to feel that stiffness.

My golf has only gotten better as well due to this flexibility. I said it on my last update but I’m certain it isn’t in my head that the new flexibility has me pulling my club back faster, increasing what’s called club speed.

I take a lot of pride in doing activities and when I felt limited before by my autoimmune I don’t as much now.

Poop warning:

Besides that as part of week 5 carry over to week 6, the only thing noticeable to me is I’m having frequent smaller poops. My body has always done this, when I have a problem with my stomach. That said, these poops (description warning) are firmer and better than prior to GLP1 when they’d be u comfortable an (description warning) muddy. Because that always made me feel sicker. So even what would’ve been the repercussions is better.

The biggest excitement for me was going through my closet and wearing clothes I’d kept since they were only a little tight, and they were loose fitting!

Last time I was this weight they were a little tight too. I thought at that time it was kinda funny that I felt still puffy. I think it was inflammation.

And finally I’m really starting to recognize my face again. I was so puffy before and it was all the inflammation. My cheeks look more and more like my own every day!!
