Why are my rear tires shredding this fast while learning to drift?

I’m fairly new to drifting and bought a Toyota GT86 to learn the basics.

Current tires are Toyo Proxes TR1s.

The car is mostly stock except for stiffer differential bushings.

Right now I’m mainly practicing figure 8s to get comfortable with weight transfer and changing direction.

After only about 3 figure 8s and one simple donut, chunks of tread started coming off my rear tire (photo attached). The tires are only a week old. I don’t attend drift events. The car is mostly used for normal street driving with the occasional drift practice session.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong, because I genuinely want to learn properly.

Could this be caused by:

incorrect tire pressure?

too much wheelspin?

alignment issues?

overheating the tires too quickly?

street tires not handling drifting well?

Any advice for a beginner would be appreciated.
