I’m about to be 20 I’ve been training for CSS for a couple months I feel like I’m constantly chasing the next step—there’s always something else I have to do before I can get my numbers and my shirt. I’m not trying to sound cocky, but I work really hard every day, and I believe my managers would agree.
It’s been a couple of months now, and I’m really motivated to move up in the company and earn full-time status. I was getting a lot of hours before, but lately they’ve been cut since more staff have opened their availability. I’ve been with Publix since I was 15, and it’s starting to feel like, at this pace, full-time might never happen.
I’m cross-trained in the bakery and previously worked as a part-time baker at Panera about two years ago, before they switched to frozen bread. My current store’s bakery is full, but I know another nearby store is looking for a baker. I’ve been considering asking my Store Manager if I could transfer or possibly work part-time at both locations.
I’m a little concerned because I know my Store Manager and Customer Service Manager might not be thrilled about it, so I’m unsure how to approach the situation. I’ve also spoken briefly with the bakery manager at the other store, and I’m wondering if it would be appropriate to ask if I could pick up shifts there so she can see my work ethic.
I just feel stuck right now and want to find a way to grow without feeling like I’m constantly being held back.
