What are my next steps to take with my insurance? Closed Claim...
At the end of march I had an accident with a person on an electric scooter who came out from a corner of a building, collided with me head-on, broke my headlight, rolled onto my hood and crushed my windshield. The operator of the scooter was shaken up, but was able to stand and walk. I never had an accident before, so this was nerve racking for me. I called emergency services, gave a police report, took pictures, and filed my claim. This past week I emailed my insurance (AAA) to get an update, and today they got back to me saying that in the police report, they found the operator of the scooter to be at fault, but due to my insurance not being able to reach the other party, they have decided to close my claim. I did a little research today and saw that my job is to contact my insurance again, in keeping the claim open which I plan to do very soon, and keep records of everything, going forward.
Since this process is slow, and I need my vehicle, I had to repair my car. I did not tell my insurance that I did this, but I plan on fighting them for the expenses I had to make out of pocket because money is tight.
What do I do after I tell my insurance to keep my claim open? My insurance told me to try and contact the other party, but if they aren't able to get answers how do they expect me to get the answers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
