Yes, I know they're the most inefficient. Unfortunately my apartment doesn't allow window units and this is my only option.

Details:

  • 1 bedroom 2nd floor apartment - 624 sq ft
  • Circular wall exhaust port in living room for AC hose (dual hoses or "hose in a hose" won't work there). Sliding door to patio but no other windows; has to vent out of that port.
  • In a (mostly) cooler climate so will only be needed for a short period in the summer.
  • Bedroom has 1 very tall (55") horizontal opening window. Bedroom is around a corner and short hallway from the living room.

I was thinking of getting a bigger unit (14k - 16k) for the living room, and hoping that's enough to keep the whole place cool. I get overheated very easily tho (especially when sleeping), so I figured if that's not enough I could get a smaller unit for the bedroom if I have to.

It's starting to heat up next weekend (just 75 degrees, but that's already too hot for me) so I was going to get the big one for now and see how that does. These are the 2 units I was considering from Best Buy, but if you have better recommendations, please feel free to suggest other units. More affordable is better as I'm just getting established in a new job, but if the performance is significantly better on a more expensive unit, I'll bite the bullet.
