The real “overconsumption” problem with Kindles is throwing away perfectly good ones via trade-ins
I’ve been in this sub for years now, so of course I’ve seen that every time somebody posts that they have more than one Kindle, everybody hops on the hate train to tell them how miserable of a human they are for their overconsumption.
I’m calling malarkey.
Because this same crowd will celebrate sending back perfectly good Kindles, which is straight up a death sentence for the device, to get like $15 off or whatever on the newest one.
Amazon only even has that trade-in program so that there are fewer used Kindles on the market so that more people will buy new.
If we’re worried about overconsumption from an environmental standpoint, the fewer brand new devices purchased, the better by far.
So I am pro have multiple Kindles if you want (maybe having a bag Kindle specifically means you read more because you never forget it or keeping one upstairs so you don’t have to fetch the one downstairs is better for you because, like my MIL, your joints hurt from making the trip these days, or maybe you keep one “kid-safe” because you work with children or WHATEVER other reason you have that you really don’t even need to justify) just please, buy at least your extra used and **SELL IT** when you are finished, instead of trading it in!
Truly, trading in is throwing away a perfectly good piece of tech and *that* is such a depressing waste.
Keep the used Kindle market going instead.
That’s my two cents.
