I was following this tutorial on youtube: 1 by 2 hidden door but the repeater pops off where it's placed because it doesn't want to be on an extended piston. Is there a way to fix it?

I am a very vanilla player, java, latest version, no mods. I still don't really get redstone but I am trying to learn!.
