And Bezos is the perfect example. He made billions, got divorced, and his ex-wife (who didn’t make billions) is giving her fortune away.
Generous people would rarely become billionaires, because they would give away huge chunks of money if they were millionaires, or even had hundreds of thousands. The money would be gone before billionaire status is achieved.
Greedy people wouldn’t give away money because they are hoarding a tangible commodity, for various reasons.
Want billionaires to give away money? Stop mentioning billionaires entirely, until they start being generous.
Bezos is going to space? Who cares. He’s getting married again? Big deal. He’s worth how much? Yawn.
McKenzie Scott is giving away hundreds of millions? Make her person of the year. Name schools and airports after her. Put her at the top of sexiest person alive list.
If self made billionaires are motivated by competition and narcissism, then change what they are competing for, and only give attention to actions that positively impact society.
“Richest person alive” isn’t important; “most generous person alive” is a living icon and an example to children.
Change the rules, change the game, change the outcome.
