I work as a care taker for the mentally disabled and its amazing, everyone is so nice, you really help people, and you get to do many cool things, like the meal above I made with one of my guys. Everyone also relies on you, I am often the one time a week these guys can go outside of their homes and do fun stuff. The downside is that I don’t get paid much, if I add the time I spend doing administrative stuff for the job that isn’t paid I spend about 40 hours a week working, but I only get paid for 30 or less of those hours, and making 19$ a hour, slightly above minimum wage of 15$ I am not even making the poverty line, I have zero chance for a promotion or raise as thats just not offered at the company. So I am left with just quitting, putting the people in great stress as they really only function when you know all the ways they work which takes months and the caretakers in greater stress as now they have to take the place of me, and replacements take up to 6 months.
I am really torn because I love my job and my work but just can’t keep doing this without destroying my standard of living.
