Context... we are common law spouses and have no need to go through a ceremony. Where I live, common law is literally the same legally as entering into a marriage contract.
So, I want my husband to be happy. I would do anything for him (almost!) He says he wants to only go through a ceremony if we get married by Elvis in Vegas. I can go along with that and it is plausible. But we've been discussing legally changing our surnames so they are the same. Neither of us have any sentimental value attached to our family names. I was thinking of going with something neutral and is easy to spell over the phone (I am insanely pragmatic lol). He wants us to be named Metal. Can you imagine?! We both like metal music so it fits. I love him and would like to go along with his idea. I figure you only live once so if he wants us to be the Metals, then why not? I am always touting to have as many experiences as possible, especially if it's outside the norm.
I know we don't need to have the same surname, but it's a parameter in the narrative of the scenario. This is a serious question, but not an overly serious issue. I am happy to keep my current name too.
