I'm a man who doesn't care about his appearance so my long hair is mostly convenience, it is easier to let it grow than cut it every month but people keep referring to me as Jesus in public so I figure I should do the guy upstairs justice and start taking care of my hair before the inevitable balding makes choices for me.

Anyway, 2 problems even this rube can recognise: frayed ends and not smooth.

The frayed ends (if that is the right term) are how it has grown naturally from being short to long, do I just cut them off in a straight line? or are they a sign of damage that I'm causing somehow?

The rest of the hair seems relatively okay but it looks nothing like the smooth hair I see everyone else with, is lack of smoothness a natural part of my hair, or is there some process I need to follow to make it smooth?

I shampoo and then condition every 3/4 days, hot-ish water. I let it dry naturally for maybe an hour and then use a hair dryer. I brush with a cute pink Compact Styler Tangle Teezer. I've never dyed it or styled it. I'm tallish so the hair is about 3ft long if that matters.

For the pictures, I shampoo'd then conditioned and dryed and brushed immediately before the pictures, so these are the hair in its peak condition.

Thank you in advance to all helpful hair havers 💖
