Blackbeard BDIF by a mile
I want to have a conversation about predictions of what decks will have good matchups into Blackbeard. I feel like the more I think about it the more I realize that Blackbeard has no weakness to exploit and no leader that currently exists will be able to have a “good” matchup into it.
For example, enel will have a bad matchup because it loses all its vassals to Blackbeard on ko’s plus gets its life burned and gets stun locked by 8 cost event into 10 cost blocker Blackbeard. That’s not even to mention the aggression you can stop by redirecting attacks, it’s just gonna be tough for enel.
Nami will have a bad time because it doesn’t have the aggression to put Blackbeard in a bad spot early and in the late game it just gets cooked by 8 cost event into blocker beard not only turning off a Newgate or an SEC Luffy from having any effects and being able to attack, but also preventing them from using their leader effect so they have to pitch real counter to keep from losing all their life or getting characters swung into. That’s not to mention the fact that any thriller bark stuff just gets black holed, or hit by the 8 cost SEC Blackbeard trigger that you can establish with your 6 cost.
At first I assumed Lucy could be good into Blackbeard because it can remove the blocker beard in the late game and bounce pesky on ko’s to hand but even then you have to deal with all your Rebecca blockers getting removed by their on ko’s or using removal to actually bounce a 1 cost character which doesn’t even guarantee you avoid it if they trigger it out. Your cavendish also gets instant black holed so I feel like even Lucy will have a super tough matchup.
Other than that, Ace maybe has a chance but if has similar issues. Marco auto dies, one swing a turn is negated which just puts Ace’s characters at risk of dying. Your Newgate will get negated in the late game and stunned. You’ll be starved for counter when your leader effect gets turned off.
The deck just seems so insurmountable and I’m really curious if anyone has any arguments for decks they think will be good into it.
