Family Car Options - First EV

This is going to be a company car provided by employer, BIK will be very similar with all.

Have 2 kids, age 7 and 10. A medium sized dog but she doesn't go in the car often anyway so probably not much of a priority here. Space wise we probably need to stick a couple of suitcases in once or twice a year but that's it.

Most of the driving is pottering around town, 30-40 miles a week, but once or twice a month is a 200-220 mile round trip commute (more often than not would be able to top up at work). The odd long UK trip for a holiday, maybe a 150 mile drive to Devon or something.

Based on stock availability (employer is an automotive company), the most likely options are the below. Keen to hear thoughts and opinions on what's best for us. Possibility for other similarly priced suggestions though, as new stock comes in frequently. These are all 2023-2024 models, under 30k miles and value up to £23k:

Tesla Model 3 Standard Range

Polestar 2 standard and long range

Kia Ev6 (ICCU issues?)

Hyundai Ioniq 5 (ICCU issues?)

Audi Q4 Etron

Outside chance of a Model Y too.

Cheers all!

Will be getting an EV in the next 4-6 weeks, but my parking situation is non-standard. I'm in Worcestershire for reference.

I park in a space approximately 15 metres from my front door. Between the house and the space is a private, secure lawned front garden (my garden). Parking space is the other side of a 6 foot fence.

Pretty low mileage - 5k a year. Typical week is just 50 odd miles pottering around town, with 4-5 100 mile round trips a year and 4-5 200 mile round trips a year, give or take.

The way I see it my options are one of:

\- untethered installation and buy 15-20m charging cable - £1300 give or take

\- installation with groundworks and a post for charger close to the fence - £1500-2000

\- install outdoor socket and 15-20m granny charger - £400 or so

\- install Commando socket and get a proper extension lead - £500 or so

Anybody been in a similar situation or anybody have any guidance? Are my prices way off?

Hi all. Posting on behalf of my wife, who is joining her employer company car scheme. Neither of us have owned an EV before so it's a new world for us. Employer will pay for charging point installation at home.

Use case - mostly short trips, but once a month (ish) a longer round trip of 200 or so miles, 80% motorway.

2 kids age 10 and 7. A medium sized dog, but she rarely goes in the car anyway.

20% tax payer

Options are, and these aren't exhaustive but a selection (and they're all 2-3 years old):

- Subaru Solterra

- Toyota Bz4x

- VW ID3 (I think a bit small but may be wrong?)

- VW ID4 (the 109kw one)

- Ioniq 5

- Hyundai Kona (I think a bit small)

- Kia Niro (I think a bit small)

Any thoughts or tips?

Edit - to confirm, this is a company car and not a salary sacrifice scheme. It's an automotive company.
