It feels like we are headed towards a caste based employment system in the West

I know the title may come off as strong but let me explain myself.

What I am trying to say is that given how difficult it is to find employment in the past couple of years, and with no signs of things getting better, the optimal strategy may be to work a similar job as some or most of your family members.

The reason why a young professional would want to work a similar job as their family members, even if they are not necessarily passionate about that particular line of work, is because they would benefit from multiple strong referrals or direct job placements.

I think over the course of a few generations, this will lead to families converging to having most members working within the same broad field, like finance, law, medicine, engineering, blue collar work and so on.

Young professionals that will seek out work that is detached from what their family is doing or have a family that does not have similar professions amongst themselves will find themselves in a difficult situation in terms of career prospects.

I also think this will impact how relationships will form once this thinking goes mainstream. People will start looking for partners that work in a similar field and try to ensure that the potential partner has family members that work within that profession.

I’ve been working part time as a developer for some time while completing my undergrad degree. I got an offer for an internship role that I accepted for this summer. I explained the situation to my current employer and we managed to work out a deal for me to work 15 hours a week after traditional working hours.

I will probably go back to work at my current employer after this internship unless the company I am doing an internship at is willing to give me a full time offer which is unlikely since I have 2 more full time semesters before graduation.

How do I present this period of time on my CV/linkedin?

Should I omit the fact that I worked for my current employer while I was doing the internship or label it as some type of “on call” helper?

Edit: forgot to ask if this will be problematic on background checks

I got my base iPhone 15 (126 gb) a bit late in September 2024. It was new when I bought it.

My carrier has a promotion that is offering to pay off up to CAD $250 of my remaining balance (which would almost pay off my phone) if I get another new or used phone from them at a 24 month plan.

After checking out the phones that are eligible for this deal, I have concluded that most are too expensive except for:

  1. A used iPhone 15 Pro @ $10/month.
  2. A used iPhone 15 Pro Max @ $15/month.
  3. A trash phone @ $0/month that costs $137 total.

The main two reasons I want the Pro Max over the Pro is for improved battery life and more storage (256 gb vs 128gb), which are two problems I have with my base 15.

The reason why I want a Pro model in general is the 120hz display, the improved RAM + CPU to have a bit more longevity and build material. I don't really care that much about the extra camera and for Apple Intelligence.

My main concerns about the Pro Max are the back glass durability, overheating and overall condition of a used phone, although, I can return it after 15 days and I don't mind paying for a battery replacement, screen and camera scratches are my main concern.

If I don't get the Pro Max, I will most certainly get the trash phone and if a good deal pops up on the 17 (new not old) within the next 24 months, I will just pay the trash phone off to be able to get the 17.

Should I get the 15 Pro Max now or get the trash phone and wait on a deal for the base 17?
