do you get OBs of ghsv2 after sex? i’m scared it will be a trigger after stopping AV’s. normally i only get them after my period (obvs not on valtrex).

does sex trigger your hsv2 outbreaks? i want to take intermittend valaciclovir cause i only get OBs during my period. But I’m scared sex will trigger an outbreak since I have never had sex without the AV’s. What is your experience?

I’m currently on suppressive Valtrex for my genital HSV-2 infection. Fortunately, I only tend to get outbreaks about 2–3 days after the start of my menstruation. I take the medication mainly to reduce the risk of transmission to my boyfriend, who already has oral HSV-1.

He has said he wouldn’t mind acquiring HSV-2, so I’m considering stopping valaciclovir. However, I’m a bit worried that sexual activity might trigger outbreaks for me.

Is this a common trigger? My outbreaks seem more closely related to hormonal changes, as they consistently occur around my menstrual cycle. I’m about 1.5 years into the infection.
