Probably covered before. I don’t like seeing the Torygraph and other such newspapers in my feed because it’s all a bunch of right-wing rage bait and makes me feel despondent about the state of the world.
No, I don’t need to see another headline about how transgender people are all men masquerading as women so they can commit rape, and no, I don’t need another article defending the right of landlords to run what should be a basic human right as a profit-driven business.
Apple News gives you the option to “block” these channels. You think — great, that means no more exposure to them. That space can be used for newspapers I actually like to read, like the Financial Times or the Guardian.
Apparently that’s not the case. Instead of them disappearing entirely, these blocked channels are now arguably more prominent, standing out on my feed as a big grey blob reminding me that I didn’t want to see it.
What’s even better is I still get to read the headlines. Apple hides the photo, and I can’t click through to the article (I didn’t want to anyway) but that was never the problem in the first place.
So what exactly is the point of this feature?
