Combat Tips for noobie?
Hello community. About a month ago I made a post here asking for advice on building a spellsword. Ive since started my playthrough and found i am having a really hard time grasping the combat.
Last night I hit my breaking point on the Cail the Silent boss fight. In disgrace, I could not even best him on easy and had to change the game to story mode so I could finish and get some sleep.
This has been only one of the myriad of challenges ive had with combat thus far. On easy mode to boot, the drakes leading up to this all gave me a run for my money.
I just want to know what am i not getting? Im still pretty nooby with crpgs. Have only finished BG3, DOS2, and Rogue trader and faired pretty decently on the normal modes.
Its just with this I don't really understand, everything feels like it ends up in a clusterf*** no matter how I try to position. If someone gets in my face I dont know a safe way to disengage my character without the enemy just auto following me to hit more. Against Cail the Silent I had no way to know when he was gonna do his fireball and even when I could see the visual icon trying to move my characters to dodge was pointless and they were instakilled one by one.
As for my character build I thought I did pretty okay. I didnt use a guide but I went with melee wizard and figured id be pretty squishy by default so ive been focusing on self buffs. Im level 7. Primarily use spirit shield, infuse with vital essence, arcane veil, parasitic staff, and some various touch damage spells along with whatever ome hand weapon looks cool with a small shield for flavor.
Long story short I think I need some advice. Maybe a guide video someone can reference? I'm just not sure what I'm missing, or is this game supposed to be this brutal even on easy?
Tldr; I suck at this games combat, how do I get good?
