George Brown ECE (Fast Track vs Online)

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get a bit more insight into the ECE programs at George Brown College.
For some context, I’ve been working as an ECA for about 10 years and was recently accepted into both the 10-month in-person fast track and the 16-month online program.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken either program. My goal is to complete it as efficiently as possible while continuing to work full-time at a centre I really enjoy.

A few specific questions I have:

Were you able to complete your placement at your current workplace?

Is it possible to be paid during placement, or is it typically unpaid?

How flexible are the class schedules? Is it realistic to stay employed full-time?

What did you find most challenging about the program?

Do you have to wait until graduation to register as an ECE, or can you begin the process earlier?

I’ve also applied to the fast track ECE program at Fanshawe College (my first choice because I prefer asynchronous learning), but I haven’t heard back yet and I see it’s now waitlisted.

Any insight, advice, or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks so much in advance!

Hi everyone, I wanted to share something I recently came across that might be helpful for others dealing with similar issues.

I have pretty severe photophobia, and it makes day-to-day activities really challenging. I usually have to wear sunglasses all the time, which isn’t always ideal. Recently, I saw a video on Instagram of someone using tinted contact lenses, and it really caught my attention.

They’re similar in concept to FL-41 lenses, but without the frames, which could be a great option for those of us with allodynia or sensitivity that makes it uncomfortable to wear anything on the face or head.

The brand is called ALTIUS, and I’ve linked their Instagram. I’ve reached out to a local provider to see if I can try them myself, and I’m happy to share an update if anyone’s interested.

Has anyone here tried tinted contact lenses like these before? I’d love to hear your experiences!
