I (19f) and my roommate are moving out at the end of the semester. We’re not close, but we had casual day-to-day conversations.

On Friday, I texted her that I was going to start moving most of my stuff out of the dorm. She replied with just “okay,” which is kind of unlike her. On Saturday, I told her I was on the way, and she left me on read. She still lives there and would have been able to see that I was gradually moving my things out over the past few days, which I had also mentioned to her.

Today (Tuesday), I finished moving the rest of my stuff out and checked out. After that, she texted me asking about some curtains she had given me at the beginning of the year. They were being used for our personal cubby/closet spaces. I’ll admit I threw them away because they were pretty dirty, and I didn’t think she’d want them back.

She got really upset and said she was mad I didn’t tell her I was moving out and that I didn’t communicate. She also acted like she was blindsided that I had fully moved out, even though I had messaged her earlier in the weekend about it.

I take full responsibility for throwing the curtains away, and I know now I should have asked first. I apologized and offered to replace them or buy her new ones. She left me on read and then unfollowed me on Instagram.

There wasn’t any previous conflict between us that I was aware of.

She says I didn’t communicate and is really upset, but I feel like I did tell her and handled it once it came up. AITAH?
