I am writing this at almost 4 am sick to my stomach after seeing some messages btw my boyfriend and his friend regarding his so called "ex-best friend". So for context, I will be changing the name. I am Alice dating Jason since last 3 months, 6 months ago we met and during that time I was going through a breakup. He liked and pursued me and I also like him back and he proposed 3 months ago and I said yes.
He had this friend, let's call her Laura whom he considered his best friend and they were friends for 2 years but recently he cut her off (not completely, they still talk sometimes) as he thought he was putting too much one sided efforts in the friendship. I always disliked Laura as I knew her before I knew my bf through mutuals and I didn't like her narrow mindedness and fake persona. Anyways, he always told me he never had feelings for her as she wasn't his type. Now, today I was snooping around his phone (I know shouldn't have but curiousity got the best of me) and searched her name in his insta chats. The result came up in a Convo with another friend. He had shared his and Laura's pic together in July 2025 and she asked him if Laura was his gf, he said no, she pressed on asking for more, he said they were "FWB" (friends with benefits).
Now, I am sitting here besides him, as he is sleeping unsure about what to do. I am so so scared of this being true rather than a joke between friends but what I am most worried about is him lying straight up to my face. He genuinely loves me, I have no doubt bout it, his actions and words both show that. I thought I finally had a good healthy relationship after coming out of a toxic 2 yr relationship with my ex. I am so so scared, please tell me what to do, if I should breakup if he admits lying and how should I bring up this conversation. Please help me out I think I might have a panic attack at this rate.
