NBD - Yamaha 735a makes me a happy camper
Technically it’s been almost a week since I got it but I had to share this awesome instrument here.
I went to try this against the BBP35 expecting to have to justify spending twice the money on the BBP35. In the end this was the one that sat the best with me.
The BBP was ever so slightly more refined, but to my hands and ears it just didn’t make a difference. I don’t think I would have heard or felt the difference in a blind test if I’m honest.
What did make a difference, though, was the preamp which is way way better than expected. It’s subtle, yet effective.
The bas came nearly perfectly set up as well. All I’ve done is lower the strings and set up intonation. To my delight I could lower all the strings to just above 1.5mm with no noticeable fret buzz.
It sounds superb to my ears so the only change I will probably make is to get a set of Schaller BM Light tuners to fix the tiny amount of neck dive it has. (They’re currently not stocked so if anyone knows another low-weight direct replacement I could use a hint).
What an amazing instrument.
