How much do you engine brake?

Let's say you do a pull in 3rd up to a corner and are at 5-6k rpm. Is it bad for the car to stay in 3rd down to 3-4k? I find myself in situations where I upshift then immediately downshift right before the corner. Subsequently let's say you're in 3rd at like 3500-4000 and want to downshift to second. Is it bad for the car to downshift to like 4500-5000?

I just got this gr Corolla last week, idk what happened but a rock or something gave me a paint scratch, and a small discoloration scratch. The more noticeable paint scratch also has a barely perceptable dent from whatever hit it.

I blindly bought a paint pen but this car is kinda nice so I don't want to mess it up.

Anybody with experience have some advice on a diy fix thats like 80-90% good and I won't notice? Or should I just hit up a body shop? Its a small area but I imagine it's more costly than I'd expect regardless.

Life happens and I live on a gravel drive but I just got it and this is the only noticable blemish so I'd like to touch it up. Any advice is appreciated, sorry if im in the wrong place.

My wrx was fun to drive, when I was driving I enjoyed it because I was in the wrx. It made a lot of roads and situations fun with it's capabilities.

This car makes driving pure fun. Its fun to drive fast, it's smooth and satisfying to drive slow. I am driving BECAUSE of this car.

I am making excuses to explore local wonders just for the sake of going on a beautiful cruise. This car is a special one. My favorite I've ever driven. I've had it for a week, I hope it continues to encourage me to explore.

2023 core all 3 packages used with 35k miles. Feels super clean.

Getting it inspected and all fluids changed today.

Coming from a 2015 wrx.

I honestly can't speak to previous 2 owners treatment but I got a good deal and the car seems clean and still has 21 months of warranty.

What are your tips for this car? I live in the hills and drive a lot for fun but work from home. How do you beat on this car but keep it happy?

How reliable are they feeling? I wanna keep it forever.

What should I look out for?

What kind rpms are you guys cruising in at dif speeds? This car feels interesting and seems to come into boost low in rpms. What how are you handling load vs rpms for lpsi etc.

Someone on another sub was warning me about spun bearings, any merit to that and how do you care for that?

I've also smelled a good bit of clutch or maybe break smell when I took it on its first fun drive last night. You guys get that when you drive spiritedly?

Good bye wrx gang. I needed a wheel hub and many other things, while planning out that work my head gasket blew. Car wasn't that valuable and I got a lot of money (14k) for it despite disclosing issues. I'll miss wrx life and the community. I'll also miss having no car payment, but I am quite excited about the new car.

EDIT:

To my haters. I traded this to an online dealer. I disclosed the issues. I bought it rebuilt from an auction 2 yrs ago. You don't see it's accident history before me, You see mileage but you don't see that it was in very poor condition in some ways. Tons of body damage and other mechanical problems to address. none critical, but the engine issue was the final straw.

The picture of the wrx looks good, pictures are easy.

Lots of people criticising me or saying its my fault. I was very passionate and caring about this car. Type at me that it's my fault the 12 yr old subie blew up. It can happen to you too. I also used to look at posts like this on this sub and pretend it wouldnt happen to me.

I had a whole list of preventative maintenance I was about to do the weekend this blew up. I'm not ignorant about how to drive cars with boost. I've had 3-4, this is the only one that has ever had issues.

You guys wanna pretend it's all my fault so you don't feel anxiety? Whatever, but it's literally just random chance to a degree. I warmed it up, changed the oil, avoided LPSI, I always used 93 octane. You all are assuming ignorance is the only answer and that's not true.

The facts are this thing needed another $1000 every 3 months for random problems and that was blocking me from ever modding it. I got sick of that, so I sold it when it broke.

To all folks saying gr corolla is doomed, well, at least I have a powertrain warranty this time. I have a feeling though this car will be a lot more durable, it doesn't have the same problematic history as my wrx did.
